S haping a future based on rights, dignity and health

UNECLAC Regional Population Conference 12 to 15 August 2013, Montevideo, Uruguay

This forum for countries in Latin American and the Caribbean will focus on key issues in     population and development in the context of the Beyond 2014 Review of the ICPD Programme   of Action.

An extensive survey carried out among UNECLAC member States has gathered evidence about   progress and challenges in implementing the ICPD Programme of Action. The regional report   summarizing the results of the survey will be launched at the Conference, and participants will   discuss future policy directions based on the report’s findings.

  • Rights, needs and demands of adolescents and youth.
  • Ageing, social protection and socio-economic challenges
  • Gaps in universal access to sexual and reproductive health services and gender equality
  • Territorial inequality, space mobility and environmental sustainability
  • International migration and the protection of the rights of all migrants
  • Indigenous and afro-descendant populations: multiculturalism and rights

ICPD Review International Conference on Human Rights

7-10th July, The Netherlands

Co-hosted by the Government of the Netherlands, UNFPA and the the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights will provide an opportunity to assess the implementation of the ICPD Programme of  Action through an examination of the nexus between human rights, equality, equity and population and development, including in the key areas of gender, empowerment, and sexual and reproductive health and rights. 

Using a multi-stakeholder approach, governments, civil society organizations, human rights defenders, human rights experts and UN agencies will discuss human rights developments in the context of the ICPD PoA implementation over the past two decades. 

The conference will identify successful stories and lessons learned as well as identifying remaining gaps, challenges, emerging issues and priorities for the future to ensure that the ICPD beyond 2014 agenda, as well as the broader development agenda beyond 2015, advance the realization of human rights without discrimination.

The ICPD Beyond 2014 ICPD Global Youth Forum - youth rights at the heart of development
A key event that took place from 4-6th of December in Bali, Indonesia and involved 2500 vitual delegates in community and online spaces around the world. The resulting ICPD Youth Forum Bali Declaration will inform youth and civil society inputs to ongoing ICPD Review and post 2015 development consultation and engagement processes.

Rio +20 the future we want

Rio +20

The Rio+20 conference on sustainable development took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June 2012. It was the biggest UN conference ever and a major step forward in achieving a sustainable future. While the conference has finished, the conversation continues online. Alongside the ICPD Beyond 2014 review and the High Level Task Force review of Millenium Development Goals, Rio +20 will shape the world we live in 20 years from now.
